The fortified town was built in 1222 as a Cathar spot. The city was revived in the mid 20th century, by artists and other visitors who noticed its beauty. Cordes is home of the museum of sugar and chocolate. It is now a popular tourist destination since its inclusion into the list of most beautiful villages of France.
